Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal

No more waxing, shaving, or painful electrolysis. It will permanently free you from the daily chore of having to shave, eliminates rash or ingrown hair associated with shaving or waxing, replaces dense body hair with aesthetically more pleasing finer to no hair growth, or gain self-confidence and an improved quality of life. Patients feel little to no sensation during the procedure. It works by emitting a pulse of laser energy to the hair follicle and they become disabled. Since this system does not cut the skin in any way, you can return to normal activity immediately.

To understand how laser treatments work one needs to understand the science behind it. Each of your hair follicles is in one of 3 stages of growth at any given time. The "active growth" (anagen) phase, "regressive" (categen) phase, and "resting" (telogen) phase. The laser is most effective at disabling only "actively growing" hairs during treatment. It is during anagen that the hair shaft contains the greatest abundance of melanin, the target of the laser light. Many hair follicles are in their resting or regressive stages at any given time. The length of growth cycle also vary slightly by body area.

As hair grows in cycles, the laser is only effective on hair in its actively growing cycle. At any one time there will only be certain hairs in that growing phase. This means that consistent treatments at appropriate intervals are absolutely necessary for the best possible results. The number of treatments required depends upon your skin, hair colour, coarseness of the hair and density per treated area. Multiple treatments may be required. Your treatment plan will be customized to obtain optimal results.

On average permanent hair removal takes between 6 and 12 treatment sessions. We specialise in treating all skin and hair types.

One can thin out hair instead of removing it all as every session will get rid of a certain percentage of the hair. If your objective is to get rid of all hair, then the treatment is continued.

Procedure

A complete hair removal treatment consists of at least 6 to 12 sessions, which are spaced apart from between 4 to 8 weeks, depending on each individual’s hair growth pattern and treatment body region.

It is very important to keep with the schedule. Not doing so will decrease the efficiency of the treatments significantly, and more treatments will be necessary for permanent results.

A treatment session time depends on the area you want to treat.  E.g. An upper lip will take 5 to 15 minutes.

You can split your treatment session into smaller sessions.

Preparation before treatments

Shave the area to be treated 1-3 days before treatment.

It is important that none of the following procedures are applied to the area prior to or between treatments, else a waiting period must be adhered to:

                Toners                                                             = 48 Hours

                Waxing/Tweezing/Sunburn/Sun-tanning/Peels          = 2 Weeks

                Electrolysis/Bad Sunburn/Deep Peels                      = 4 Weeks

                Depilation Creams                                               = 4 to 6 weeks

Do not wear make-up, creams, moisturizers, lotions, deodorants, powders, or jewellery. You can apply these after the treatment.

Clients can exfoliate and moisturize 1 to 3 days before/after a treatment.

Aftercare and what to expect

Any redness or irritation should resolve itself from within a few minutes to several days depending on the area and skin sensitivity.

Use a sun block with a maximum SPF factor of 15/16 during treatments.

Application of a moisturizing cream is recommended.

Avoid toners for 48 hours.

Do not tan within 7 days after treatment.

Do not scratch the treated area.

Report any side effects lasting longer than 24 hours, treat as a sun burn.

Hair can be shaven between treatment sessions.

Do not tweeze or wax attached hair, your next session will destroy them.

After treatment, you'll still have all the hair. Within 2 days after treatments, the hair ’appears’ to grow, this is the onset of the shedding process. After 10 to 25 days, you will notice that part of the hair has been ’grown out’ about 2mm, while there will probably be also hairs that have grown markedly longer. The longer hairs have not reacted to the treatment, while the shorter ones will stop 'growing', and soon will shed.

After 4 to 6 weeks, between 10% - 30% of your hair sheds per treatment.

Skin Clearance (Acne / Problematic / Oily)

While not a life threatening condition, acne can be upsetting and disfiguring. Untreated acne can lead to serious and permanent scarring. Don’t pick, scratch or squeeze pimples yourself. When pimples are squeezed, more redness, swelling, inflammation and scarring may result. The redness around a pimple is caused by the body’s inflammatory response to fight an infection.

If you have any kind of acne, even severe acne or oily skin, there is nothing you will find that works better to clear your complexion. Works for adults and teenagers with fast and effective results. Laser eliminates acne bacteria, spots, pimples, redness, pus, inflammation, blackheads and whiteheads with no side effects. 10 Times more powerful than any other treatment.

It is recommended that clients have an initial intense laser peel of 1 to 6 treatments weekly and then have periodic light laser peels approximately once a month in conjunction with a good cleansing regime in between their laser treatments. This will keep the skin in excellent condition. As lasering prevents future outbreaks clients after their initial treatments, return a few months out of the year for a maintenance session.

Laser Tattoo Removal | Permanent Makeup Removal

We use a Q-Switched Nd:Yag Laser to remove tattoos, as it  works by delivering pulses of laser light, which pass through the skin and break up the particles of tattoo pigment. These pigment particles are then removed by the body’s natural filtering systems. Depending on the colour of the tattoo you will need at least 3 - 15 treatments to achieve a 95% clearance. Laser removal of partial or complete black, blue, brown, red and some yellow tattoo's.

The first few treatments are painful (as sore as having your skin tattooed) but the pain is short-lived and only lasts during the procedure. With further treatments, the pain experienced during the treatment decreases as there is less pigment to absorb the laser energy. We also use a laser cooling device which minimizes the pain during the procedure. If you are however very sensitive a topical anaesthetic cream called Emla may be applied 1 hour before your treatment to reduce the pain which can be purchased at most pharmacies or purchased from us if requested.

Mild blistering may occur after the treatment. Fading of the tattoo is usually visible about 2 weeks after treatment. As the laser only targets the topmost part of the tattoo pigment layer multiple sessions will be required.

After the treatment, the area will feel similar to a slight sunburn. Scar repair, moisturizing and sun-blocking creams are recommended. Typically, within a day or so, any discomfort disappears. A shower can be taken the next day, although the treated area should not be scrubbed. Practically, one resumes everyday activities immediately after the treatment.

The laser cannot be used for the removal of lesions that are cancerous or suspected of being cancerous. If there is any doubt, your medical doctor will discuss the appropriate treatment methods with you.

Blue, black, brown and red inks resolve the best. Yellow, bright blue, bright green and purple tattoos are usually the most difficult to remove.

In many cases, the tattoo disappears. Greater than 95% fading of the tattoo may be accomplished. However, it is very important to know that over 100 tattoo inks are in use worldwide today. Not knowing which tattoo ink was used or how deeply the ink was applied, makes it impossible for the physician to predict the degree of removal of any given tattoo. On the average, tattoos require 5-10 treatments, all spaced approximately 8 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink used and the depth of the ink in the skin. The tattoo will lighten between each treatment until complete removal.

Vein removal

Laser removal of veins (blue & red) are now possible from areas like your face down to your legs.

For effective results expect 1 to 3 treatments from a specific area or lesion depending on density and depth of the vessels.

One can expect one of the following outcomes after a treatment:

- The vessel to disappear

- The vessel to darken

- The vessel to shrink

No sun exposure immediately afterwards is recommended.

Treatments required: Multiple (1 - 3) until clear.

Wart removal / Skin tags removal

Use what modern surgeons use at a fraction of the cost at your convenience. Laser removal warts and skin tags are now possible from areas like your face down to your legs.

Every year millions of people are treated for verrucae, or warts. Clinical studies have proven that laser treatment has become a very successful alternative for the removal of warts. Similarly skin tags, or abnormal skin growths can also be removed by laser.

The Laser emits a powerful flash of light directly to the wart's red blood cells and, when this light energy is absorbed, it is converted to heat. The heat coagulates the abnormal capillaries, cuts off the wart's blood supply and destroys it. The laser also obliterates the virus. The treated growth gradually separates from the skin and sloughs off, leaving healthy skin and tissue completely unaffected. Depending on the size and type of wart, some conditions will respond to the very first treatment. However, most will require additional treatment sessions. Your consultant will assess whether further treatments are necessary.

There may be minor discomfort after the treatment – but most patients are able to return to normal daily activities almost immediately. You will experience some temporary discoloration of the skin at the treatment site. Over the 24 hours following laser exposure, the gray discoloration will darken and persist for up to 2-3 weeks.
